About the book
When she meets K, a white Zimbabwean haunted by his past as a soldier, Fuller finds herself drawn into a quest to understand how warfare transforms those who fight in it. Together they travel through Zambia and Mozambique, navigating a landscape still scarred by conflict whilst K confronts his demons and Fuller grapples with her own complicated relationship to the Africa of her childhood. What emerges is a searing meditation on violence, memory, and the impossible task of reconciling with history. Raw, darkly humorous, and deeply compassionate, this is Fuller at her unflinching best—illuminating the personal costs of war and the long shadows cast by colonialism across southern Africa.
