This page sets out how books are chosen and described on Outdoor Books, so you can judge what you are reading.

We do not review books

Nobody at Outdoor Books reads every book in the catalogue and writes an assessment of it, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. There are no star ratings, no scores and no reviews on this site. If you see an opinion here, it will be signed and it will be obvious.

What a book page is

A book page is a catalogue entry: title, author, edition details, and the publisher's own description of the book. It tells you what a book is. It is not a recommendation and it is not an opinion.

What selection means

The editorial work here is classification and grouping — deciding which category a book belongs in, and which books belong together for a particular reader, trip or place. Where a book is featured or included in a collection, that is a judgement about relevance and fit, not about quality.

Publisher material

Publisher and retailer descriptions are used for factual information. They are not rewritten to look like our own words and they are never presented as our view of a book.

Independence

We earn affiliate commission when somebody buys through a link on this site. That commission plays no part in which books are listed, featured or grouped, and no publisher or author can pay for a position here.

We make no claims about delivery, pricing or availability, because those depend on your own account and basket at the time you buy, and we have no sight of them.
