Part of the iconic Collins New Naturalist series, the longest-running and arguably the most influential natural history series in the world with over 100 volumes published in over 60 years. This edition is produced from an original copy by William Collins.

Between 1948 and 1971, a parallel New Naturalist series of monographs focused on single species or related groups was published alongside the broader mainstream volumes. These shorter, more intimate studies maintained the same high standards as the main series, presented in a smaller format of around 50,000 words. For over forty years these beloved volumes have been unavailable—now, they're back in print for a new generation of readers.

Like their larger counterparts, the monographs feature the stunning, distinctive cover illustrations by artists Clifford and Rosemary Ellis that helped inspire an entire generation of nature enthusiasts.
