Books for the St Francis Way

The St Francis Way, or Via di Francesco, is a walking pilgrimage of about 518 km from Florence to Rome through Tuscany and Umbria, following places linked with Saint Francis of Assisi. The route is usually walked in around 27 stages of 11 to 29 km, passing the sanctuary of La Verna, Assisi, Gubbio, Spoleto and the Marmore Falls. It suits walkers looking for a month-long pilgrimage that is quieter than the Camino de Santiago.

The Cicerone guide to the route, The Way of St Francis by Sandy Brown, has north-to-south route descriptions with 1:100,000 maps and elevation profiles, downloadable GPX files, and variants for the Florence to La Verna and Assisi to Rieti sections. It also gives itineraries starting at either Assisi or La Verna, advice on accommodation and how to get a pilgrim credential.
